LG 42UB820V 42-inch Widescreen Ultra HD LED TV – Poor blacks / washed out picture

Poor blacks / washed out picture. I lasted two days with the lg before returning it. My main issue is with the picture quality and the black levels. No matter how much you adjust the settings of the picture (there are *many* discussions in forums suggesting the best settings), you cannot get a clean, sharp and vibrant picture. The best ‘black’ is a dark grey and leaves the picture looking mainly washed out. I spent a good few hours late into the night trying to get a better picture, and i couldn’t. Others have noted the same frustration in forums. I had the opportunity to purchase a sony kdl42w706b prior to returning the lg, and managed to view them side-by-side. The sony made the lg look dull in comparison. The bravia has beautiful strong lush blacks that make the picture leap out of the screen (startlingly so) – so much so that i have left the default settings pretty much unaltered.

Try the following calibration settings if you’re not happy with the initial picture quality. Ok tv, but took ages to set up. Try the following calibration settings if you’re not happy with the initial picture quality:settings>basic>energy saving: offcinema: userbacklight: 50contrast: 90brightness: 45sharpness: 27 (standard def): 22 (hd)colour: 50tint: 0picture option>noise reduction: auto (standard def): off (hd)mpeg reduction: as aboveblack level: lowreal cinema: onlocal dimming: lowtru motion: offexpert>dynamic contrast: offsuper resolution: offcolour gamut: standardedge enhance: oncolour filter: offgamma: 2.

This tv keeps dropping down to £499 so be sure to use camelcamelcamel. Com to catch it when it does again, if not lower. One thing to note is that theres is a lot of input lag when gaming unless you use the ‘game’ picture mode. This then turns off a lot of the options which seem to create a false image effect with a lot of filters. Once on this mode though you can play with the colour settings and everything looks lovely (tested with an xbox one). The freeview hd on this works very well and has yet to cut out like some set top boxes. I am piping my audio out of the tv into a surround sound system via the optical out and that also works very well too. Wall mounting screws come attached to the back of the tv, just screw into any 400×400 vesa mount and it will work a treat.

Very pleased with the set, excellent picture, had no trouble setting it up, handbook could be better but at least there is one.

LG 42UB820V 42-inch Widescreen Ultra HD LED TV with Freeview (discontinued by manufacturer)

  • LG ULTRA HD 4K TV – The best picture quality there is, with four times the detail of Full HD wherever you sit to watch.
  • Smart TV – Brings together all of your favourite content, TV and online
  • 2.0 Ch Speaker System – Dual speakers delivering an incredible cinema-like experience.
  • Magic Remote (4 mode) – Pointing, Wheel, Voice, Universal Control

Fast delivery great item thanks.

Makes a good attempt at upscaling standard picture signals (from terrestrial and sky box hd). Magic control is pretty good, and it’s easy to use onscreen keyboard using this.

Such a clear screen it actually felt like i was inside her vagina.

A brilliant tv, with great picture quality, it’s like watching a cinema screen. Easy to set up, good wifi connection, connects to sound bar, satellite receiver and dvd without problem. Smart tv works well though there isn’t a compatible software for streaming directly from the net, i. Channel 4 won’t stream directly from their website. The various tv on demand apps work though, with no problem.

Great tv & i would have given it 5 stars. Great tv & i would have given it 5 stars had the stand been a little better designed. With it having a leg at either end, it isn’t as manoeuvrable as it could be. Not a problem if you are hanging on a wall i guess. Each tv i replace, i now do so with an lg.

Tv can’t get any better than this. Tv is awesome,it has all the bells and whistles you could want, it bring out old dvds and films almost alive, casablanca, 80 years old looks brand new, watching an old movie like the classic western ,the big country, was in effect like standing behind the director, you could almost touch the actors as the motion slowed down to “real life. And not film mode, it was just terrific, you see the film in a whole new light, and well worth the money alone for that, blu ray discs seem to sparkle, a great buy for the movie lover.

Does anyone know how to out put the ps4 in 4k on this tv?. This tv is sublime, it’s very clear, i bought it from argos instead of amazon because it was cheaper. I only bought it to play ps4 on. Only problem is even though it’s 4k, my ps4 still doesn’t output to 4k. Doesn’t even try to upscale it. Also if you like netflix you can watch breaking bad and house of cards in 4k on the actual netflix app on the tv. Requires you to update your netflix subscription though to the £8.

Great picture quality, user interface could be better. Great picture quality and fantastic value for the price. Let down a little by the clunky interface. It took me a long time to work out how to put netflix and other premium services on the “my apps” list (but i figured it out eventually). Also configuring the favourite channels list is not very intuitive or easy to use, it should be easier imho. Final gripe: itv player and 4od are missing. However, all-in-all, a great little 4k tv, upscaling from standard tv and hd is good and netflix seem to be adding more 4k content.

I’ve always bought sony tvs, but this blows them out of the water. Easy to set up, recognised by my wi-fi and very intuitive. But the picture is something again. Just like being at the cinema. Sound quality good and very loud.

I bought this as an upgrade for my old hd ready 40 inch samsung tv. The price was amazing for a 4k tv. This tv is much lighter than my previous one, the sound quality is better and the picture quality is amazing and crystal clear, even so in bbc hd channel. Two remotes provided, the magic remote is fun to use as a mouse. I have synchronised my smartphone with this tv and can can control and watch my favourite channel like youtube on this tv.
