Sony KD-43X8307C Smart 4K UltraHD 43-inch TV – SONY want you to pay big money for the privilege of beta testing their new Android televisions.

Phenomenal tv after the updates. There have been a lot of negative reviews around the internet for this tv and it gives an unfair view of how good this tv actually is. Almost all of the negative reviews are based around the android tv operating system or missing functions. This has since had 3 updates with a further one coming on 17th aug which have corrected most of the criticisms. As soon as i got the tv i plugged it in and immediately started the update process. Contrary to other reports, this only took 15 minutes. I have fibre so maybe other reviewers have slow internet?. The recent updates bring netflix, iplayer and significant performance enhancements. Pros-the tv itself looks great. The bezel is slim and has a nice brushed metal look.

Sony’s presentation and support shambolic. Behind sony’s shambolic instructions and presentation of this tv, there is actually a really good tv here. First of all allow me to answer some questions i immediately had. The manual, and set-up guide, refer to a touch remote. In this tv version a touch remote is not included. You just get a bog standard remote with no microphone or touch-pad. I had to go through several different people to find that out as originally i thought it was missing. To use voice search on this tv you will have to download the android tv app written by google to your android phone. You can find it on the play store.

Fantastic picture let down by a few niggles. Firstly i must say that my purchase of this tv was not from amazon but i thought i would add my feelings, quite a few reviews speak of very long update times, i believe this to be a broadband issue as i have fibre broadband and til date there have been 3 updates in which none took longer than 15 minutes. I also had my hdmi cables in and didn’t have a problem. Now comes three sections; really good * good * & not so good. Really good *** the picture is truly fantastic in ultra hd but alas only from netflix and some 4k stuff available on youtube at present. (please see update below) as a previous review stated that when you do watch a 4k picture, it does indeed resemble 3d. Good *** being an android tv is a bonus and also other apps and features to whom like playing about and wanting something more than just a tv will not be disappointed, also good is having so much content so you don’t just have to rely on one super company such as sky. Not so good *** yes the tv takes a while to start up, the first time i thought it was not working because you have to wait about 10 seconds before even the led light comes on so you keep pressing but trust me press and wait and it will come on. Then i have found for some reason the screen is very reflective and any light you have on has a serious effect on your viewing experience so you have to arrange your lighting to suit, also when the tv is off the screen just does not look quite right almost like a dirty look with a reflective effect, maybe that has something to do with the 4k ?.One other issue that is annoying, if you are watching a film on netflix and it is in the dreaded wide screen format (black bar top and bottom) the zoom feature does not work and so leaving a much smaller picture on your lovely 49″ tv.

Very good tv must buy if u got ps4 or sony phone.

  • Brilliant TV, interface is flaky

  • 4K PROCESSOR X1: Whatever you watch is boosted to 4K Ultra HD clarity, with greater colour & contrast.
  • ANDROID TV: All the personalization, intelligence and entertainment of your smartphone, on the big screen.
  • SLIM DESIGN: The elegant slim design seamlessly blends into any living room, even when mounted on the wall
  • Motionflow XR 800Hz: Reduced blur and judder. Smoother images, whatever you watch.
  • SMART TV: Connect to the Internet for a range of Catch-up services and content

Free view channels are generally fine, netflix and now tv is bang on but. Bought this tv from a well known high street retailer. From first use the tv was clumsy, the menu and functions were slow to respond and sometimes didn’t at all, resulting in a crash which only a hard reset will remedy. I also noticed a slight lag in sound which comes and goes, free view channels are generally fine, netflix and now tv is bang on but i only really notice the lag on youtube. I play quite a lot of call of duty and i notice the lag when playing this. You see the flash of the gun just before you hear the gunshot, it’s a split second difference but it’s still a difference, however i always play with headphones which gets the sound directly from the console so it’s not much of a problem for me. I have just installed the latest update released on 2nd february. This update included general performance enhancements and also fixes for a quicker remote control response and general tv crashing. It’s a shame these tv’s are released with so many bugs in the software, this is the reason why this tv has so many poor reviews. If this tv was released now with the current software release it would be a different story.

I don’t know his i ever survived without one of these gone are the days of cable/sat tv and their ridiculously priced packages.

Tv was easy to set up and updating was also plain sailing. Very impressed although only had it a month. Tv picture is superb and the versatility of the android functions really enhances the viewing experience. The ability to be able to control the tv via a tablet or smartphone (via a sony app) makes life a lot easier than trying to access the internet etc via the remote control. Tv was easy to set up and updating was also plain sailing but does take about 30 minutes to complete. The tv is also smaller in overall dimensions than the 46″ tv it replaced.

I bought it to replace my 32 inch hd sony, seven years old, and the step up is extraordinary. This is a true internet tv, and integrates nicely with google, netflix, amazon video, etc. I can use my phone as a remote with voice search, and casting is a doddle. The picture is great of course. I found the setup very straight forward and quick. Really glad i made this upgrade – for about the cost of the phone in my pocket.

Switches itself on when i don’t want it to. When powering on from standby mode fails to respond to remote requiring hard reset.

Great tv with great picture quality. Good colour and refresh rate. The sound isn’t too bad either. The casing, trim and general design is of a high quality. Does the job but can be a bit slow at times. Main glitches i’ve had are:it has stopped responding (still playing the tv with sound but not responding to the remote on one or two occasions) and had to be restarted with the power button on the tv it self. Plus on one or two times the tv was turned on but the sound was not playing. Restart the tv from the remote and then the sound was back.

Yes the software isn’t perfect but it’s getting better and i’ve had very few. Fab tv, yes the software isn’t perfect but it’s getting better and i’ve had very few issues with it. I strongly believe that sony will fix the issues and it will become extremely good instead of just good. The only issues i’ve had is the netflix app has forgotten my log in twice and i’ve had to reboot the tv a couple of times when it’s become unresponsive. The rest of the time it’s been a joy to use with the apps working well and the easy you view app for finding something to watch is awesome. Couple this with the tv sideshow app on my mobile and it reallyu is a great way to find and watch content. One of the things i liked about the sony smart tv system instead of some of the others is all uk content seems to be available whereas some of the others don’t appear to support itv player or 4od etc. I am happy to lose some performance to actually have all available content, especially when i don’t have to know what channel something is on and just search for a program (youview)) for the tv to launch the correct player. The picture quality is excellent with 4k content looking fabulous, the upscaling of standard and hd content works very well as well allowing all channels to be watched without disappointing results. Sound is ok i guess but i have a full surround set up which cost more than the tv so obviously i use this instead.

Now with apps, youview and stable. Most of the of the negative reviews are because the early versions of the software used. Most of those issues have now been fixed by sony. This leaves me with a wonderful teleision with a great quality picture. One thing when comparing to other televisions in the class if the refresh rate/motion tracking. Especially when in a store, ask the rep to show you scrolling text on the screen. This is especially useful if you have poor sight/are elderly and want to read subtitles or scrolling news.

Loved the telly, hated android. I really liked this tv, great picture quality etc. But i reluctantly had to return mine because the software is so buggy and annoying. I had to restart it at least every other day and unplug it completely sometimes. On two occasions it brought our whole network to a halt until i unplugged ethernet cable. Maybe i should have kept it but used a firestick until the software is fixed.

The good, the bad and the beautiful. Superb future proof 4k tv, picture quality & colour excellent. Overall very happy as compared lots of tv in same class. Tbh most are all fantastic in this price band. The upscaling is good, the x1 chip works well however don’t expect everything to scale perfectly some older programs on low bandwidth channels will have that “foreign soap opera” look. Sound is average as expected but i added a sony ht-xt1 to boost it up and the arc (audio return channel) setup from tv to base works great. This means all devices plug into the tv and audio is returned direct to sound base. If you have hdmi sources only you can plug those direct into sound base but this was not good for me as we had component and av inputs as well. The bravia sync works fine but does not turn base on when you turn tv on and you can’t control extra functions from tv remote, minor annoyance. So like all computers they don’t just work 😉 you will need to use that powerful it trick of turning it off and on again from time to time to put things right and it takes a few minutes to do this. You will need “firmware”updates from time to time and these could take from 30-60 mins to download and install. Since latest tvos updates things have been better but sony and google need to work hard getting the tv os experience near to perfect. I personally have lots of “smart functions” on xbox one and apple tv as well so spoilt for choice.
